Spectacle Exhibition
East Thames makes a spectacle of local creativity
East Thames has launched Spectacle, a free exhibition of images, sound pieces and artefacts from cultural events around Newham.

The exhibition, run in partnership with the London Borough of Newham and with sponsorship from Breyer Group and Pellings.

The exhibition is being held in East Gallery at the head office of East Thames, West Ham Lane, Stratford.
Spectacle was launched by Councillor Akbar Chaudhary from Newham Council at a private view event on Wednesday. Photos are attached.

Spectacle’s images and sounds reflect key projects that have happened in Newham over the past year. Photographs by Andrew Baker and Sarah London show carnival scenes, aerial acrobatics and musical collaborations. Soundscapes by James Corner and Jayne Quinton give an insight into the backstage and preproduction of events. Carnival band M2K exhibit masks and costumes throughout the gallery space.

Spectacle is the latest in a series of shows at East Gallery, which is part of the community space at East Thames’ headquarters. East Thames set up East Gallery as an open and attractive exhibition area for local artists and an inspirational space to engage young people and other members of the community.

The exhibition is open to the public from Monday to Friday, 8.30am-6pm and Saturday, 9am to 2pm. It runs until 28 March 2009.
