Current Exhibition
BEFORE LONDON 2012 1 June - 27 June 2009
This unique project records the personal histories of the area being redeveloped in the run-up to 2012.
Artist Allan Williams has made a unique record of the Olympic site as it was before development started, painting portraits and making sound recordings of the memories, stories and experiences of older people who have lived or worked in the area.
Accompanying Williams’ artwork are photographs of the Athletes Village site, which forms part of the area’s wider regeneration. The end result is both a visual delight and a valuable archive for the people of Newham.

HOMEWORK: Design in Social Housing 1979-2009
To celebrate East Thames Group’s 30th anniversary, this exhibition examines the evolution of design in social housing since 1979. Through photography, film, 3D modelling and archive material, it looks at developments in the last quarter of the 20th century, and the ways that modern homes are designed specifically to help build a vibrant community and meet new greener objectives through socially sustainable design. As this exhibition demonstrates, the look of social housing has changed considerably in just 30 years, as have our ideas about what makes up good design and excellent homes.
The exhibition is free and open to the public from 29 June 2009, Monday to Friday, 8.30am-6pm and Saturday, 9am to 2pm. It runs until 18 October 2009 and can be seen at East Thames Head Office, 29-35 West Ham Lane, Stratford, E15 4PH.
